The majestic island of Crete

An island that simply has it all!!!

Have you ever wondered if there is a real paradise on Earth that you can live unforgettable moments? The only thing you have to do to be there is to book a flight to the amazing island of Crete. As one of the largest islands of Greece and the Mediterranean Sea, with around 600.000 residents, Crete and its beauties could offer you a great opportunity to explore and experience moments that include tremendous mountains, verdant gorges and crystal - clear sea waters. The history of this place is dated back in 3000 BC when Minoans, which were the ancient Cretans, developed the first community buildings and castles and conducted regular commercial transactions with other regions. Apart from that, Cretan nature and climate helped Minoans to cultivate excellent products like oranges, olives, olive oil, honey, grapes and qualitative wine. Today, modern Crete continues to provide these unique tastes and of course Cretan wineries continue to intrigue every authentic wine lover.

Crete includes three large cities: Chania, Rethymnon and Heraclion with each one offering different experiences to their visitors. Heraclion is the largest city of the island and the capital of commercial activities. Arriving at the port you will be astonished by the marvelous Venetian Castle or Koules, where you can enjoy a walk and admire the monuments of the Venetian era. After that, walking down the stone paved 25th August Street you will be at Heraclion’s centre where the town hall is. This area is characterized by high quality Greek gastronomy because there are plenty of Cretan cuisine restaurants, bars and taverns. Last but not least, do not miss to catch the bus or rent a car and have a trip to world - famous Knossos and Festos archaeological sites. These monuments are so well maintained that you can feel like a powerful emperor with thousands of citizens ready to applaud you! But, if you want to have a unique story to tell, you must undoubtedly organize a trip to Spinalonga island with a very interesting background story, 66Km eastern from Heraclion and then to monasteries and churches like Toplou monastery in Lasithi region, which is famous for olive oil and winery products.

On the other hand, Chania is the second biggest city in Crete. Strolling around the impressive Venetian lighthouse where the Venetian port is placed, you could enjoy your coffee having the Aegean Sea in front of your eyes. In addition, you can find cozy traditional taverns and souvenir shops, where you can taste traditional flavors of Greek gastronomy like wine, grapes, olives and extra quality olive oil. Of course, Chania’s nightlife is one of the most well known, as there are plenty of options for a relaxing drink. One more asset Chania is famous for is about the beautiful beaches across the west coast. Travelling from Chania to Kissamos you could enjoy swimming at Balos beach, which is famous for its turquoise waters and the wild natural beauty, or at Falasarna beach, which has been voted as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in Europe several times in the past.

Continuing your vacations in Crete you would inevitably visit the picturesque town of Rethymnon, which looks like a masterpiece of art. The well maintained Venetian Castle or Fortezza, the Old town and the Venetian Harbor could take your mind off by taking you back into a majestic era. Also, Rethymno’s beaches and sea waters are so clean, that they are awarded every year as one of the best in Greece. If you want to explore further Rethymno’s region we definitely recommend visiting Arkadi monastery and learn about its rich history during Ottoman era. Otherwise, you can spend your day by exploring Eleftherna village with a unique archaeological site and the most modern and outstanding museum that includes exceptional archaeological findings. Lastly, in southern Crete are located some extraordinary places which you have not to miss.
